Download SoundCraft 0.5.0

Released October 11, 2026. Every link below points to the official GitHub release; nothing is re-hosted or repackaged here.

Want to look around first? Run SoundCraft in your browser. It is the same app compiled to WebAssembly, playing the built-in demo song. Install the desktop app to work on your own audio: the browser version cannot import files, record, save sessions or bounce a mix. The desktop app does all of that, autosaves with recovery, hosts CLAP, VST3 and (on macOS) Audio Units plugins, and can be driven by agents over MCP.

Windows

Installers and executables are code-signed. The portable zip runs from any folder. If the app flashes in Task Manager and quits, see the graphics-driver note below.

macOS

One universal build for Apple silicon and Intel, signed and notarized by Apple.

Linux

The AppImage runs on most distributions and can update itself with AppImageUpdate; the Flatpak is sandboxed (install it with flatpak install --user). The RISC-V tarball needs glibc 2.39 or newer, such as Ubuntu 24.04.

FreeBSD

A /usr/local-style tree: unpack it with tar -xzf soundcraft-*-freebsd-x86_64.tar.gz --strip-components 1 -C /usr/local.

If the app doesn’t open on Windows

The desktop app starts with DirectX 12 only. Some AMD graphics drivers crash when an OpenGL instance is also created, so the project avoids it by default. If the window still never appears, set the WGPU_BACKEND variable before starting, for example in PowerShell from the folder with the executable:

$env:WGPU_BACKEND = "vulkan"
& .\soundcraft.exe
Remove-Item Env:WGPU_BACKEND

Verify your download

Each release publishes a SHA256SUMS.txt file. Compare it with the checksum of your file, for example shasum -a 256 soundcraft-0.5.0-macos-universal.dmg on macOS or Get-FileHash in PowerShell.

Build from source

git clone https://github.com/storytold/soundcraft
cd soundcraft
cargo run --release -p soundcraft -- --demo

SoundCraft is written in Rust and dual-licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0. Linux builds need the ALSA headers (libasound2-dev on Debian and Ubuntu, alsa-lib-devel on Fedora). See the repository for the rest.
